We are a member of the Green Tourism Business Scheme and as such we are committed to good environmental practices and sustainable development. We comply with the legal requirements relating to environmental protection and waste disposal and aim to minimise our impact and maximise the positive aspects that we have on the environment. We support sustainable tourism through activities in economic, social and environmental issues.
We are demonstrating our commitment in practice through the following activities:
* Recycling paper, glass, plastic bottles, tins and cardboard
* Installation of owl boxes to encourage barn and tawny owls
* Erection of hibernation and roosting areas for the five species of bats that have been identified in our grounds
* Collection of rainwater for animal consumption and garden watering
* Using low energy lightbulbs
* Using eco-products for cleaning
* Reducing water consumption in cisterns
You can help us in our endeavours by:
* Helping us recycle paper etc
* Use local bus or cycle to give the car a day off
* Encouraging us to be more eco friendly
* Complying with our towel policy
The above activities are just a small sample of the good practices being undertaken to minimise our damage to the planet. They are taken from 120 measures that make up the Green tourism award.
In our latest inspection we were awarded silver grade, attaining a score of 84%.
Policy
We aim to live in a way that is sympathetic to a Green lifestyle, thereby reducing
our carbon footprint, and lessening the impact we have on the environment.
